Exclusiveness is not such a bad thing

One of the objections raised against the Christian religion is the objection to its exclusiveness expressed by the words of Jesus in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Since God is love, as Christian teaching proclaims, why does He demand belief in Jesus Christ as absolutely essential for His favor, forgiveness, and entrance to heaven and why are other sincere opinions and religious beliefs excluded? It is a legitimate and important question but not surprising in light of the prevailing philosophy of the day. That is, that exclusiveness is a terrible moral offense against human dignity.

For special interests

EDITOR: The first quality I look for in a candidate for Assembly District 39 is whether they will represent all the residents of Douglas County (and Incline), or are they beholden to certain special interests.

Murphy best

Janet Murphy is clearly the best choice for state Assembly. I have been following the race and did some investigating. Janet Murphy is the only one that has the experience we need. Including other folks that have worked with her, from various agencies, she always has the best interest of the taxpayer's dollars at heart.

Smallwood best

"Don't be Fooled," there's a crystal clear choice for Assembly 39.

SpringBoard canned

EDITOR: I attended the Douglas County School Board meeting for the presentation of SpringBoard. In my opinion, as a former English teacher for 38 years, SpringBoard is a "canned" program touted as "vertical instruction" which requires all English teachers to follow a specific plan.

Immigration myths

I have been listening to the foray over immigration from legal to illegal. Just recently the state of Arizona passed a law to help them deal with the overwhelming ordeal of illegal immigrants and the drugs and crime that follows them. The federal government keeps saying they are, or have done their part to secure the border and control the illegal problem.

What in the world has happened to our DMV? I have registered numerous cars in the past 10 years and it has always been a pleasurable experience. Elect Ted Thran

I have always thought experience in an office was the very best reason to elect someone to that office. Ted Thran has been working in the treasurer's office since May 3, 1999

Thran better qualified

I read Mr. Hettrick's letter in the May 12 issue of The R-C, and found his perception of what qualifications for the job of clerk-treasurer he felt would most benefit the people of Douglas County interesting. He seems oblivious to the fact that voters are sick of politicians.
