Teachers serve up cash for schools

Northern Nevada elementary school teachers and administrators raised more than $3,500 for their schools during an April 28 fundraiser where they prepared food and took orders in McDonald's restaurants.

A portion of the sales during that time went back to their schools.

"Schools are in desperate need of additional funding based on detrimental budget cuts that will impact our children in the classroom," Sharon Kassity, local Mc-Donald's owner, said. "McDonald's is committed to student success in Nevada, and by partnering with local districts, we hope to bridge the gap for many schools who are struggling to meet student needs."

Restaurants in Carson City, Minden, Yerington, Winnemucca and Battle Mountain sponsored school workers, with revenues earned going to Bordewich-Bray, Fritsch, Seeliger, Fremont and Pinon Hills elementary schools. Other schools that participated include Yerington Elementary in Yerington, Battle Mountain High School in Battle Mountain, and Grass Valley Elementary in Winnemucca.
