Concerts in park begin for season

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department kicks off the 14th annual GE Energy Family Summer Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. today with Shane Dwight in Minden Park.

Northern California native, now Nashville-based, singer-songwriter Dwight plays blues, rock 'n' roll, alternative country and American roots music. He returns after playing in the Minden concert series last year. He and his group play the Eldorado Blues, Brews & BBQ festivals in Reno, and in blues clubs and festivals around the U.S. and Canada.

Dwight's latest CDs are this year's "Shane Dwight Live from the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise," and "Gimme Back My Money" from 2009. Check him out at shanedwight.com

The concerts in the series are free to the community thanks to the Town of Minden, GE Energy, Carson Valley Inn, Dr. James the Dentist, Edgewood Tahoe Golf, Walmart, Park Place AM/PM, Starbucks, Carson Valley Medical Center and Sullivan Law.

Sponsorships go toward concert costs including promotion, talent, sound and staffing. To be a sponsor or place an ad, contact Sheryl Christian at schristian@co.douglas.nv.us or 782-9828.
