Account, Web site set up for injured mechanic

Family and friends of injured mechanic Mike Schiller have set up a bank account and established a Caring Bridge Web site to offer updated information on his condition.

On Tuesday, Ron Schiller asked residents to pray for his 54-year-old brother. He said Mike Schiller was in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery but it would take a long time.

"He's making progress," Ron Schiller said. "But how that's measured is the question. We're asking for prayers. Prayers will help us all get through us."

Schiller, 54, was critically injured Friday in a 10:20 p.m. accident on Kayne Avenue in Johnson Lane. He was ejected from a Shelby Cobra when he lost control of the car.

He suffered serious head and facial injuries and a broken arm and leg.

Family members said Schiller is in a medically induced coma. They are requesting no visitors or telephone calls, but invited well-wishers to leave messages on the Web site.

Ron Schiller said the family plans to keep the popular auto shop open while his brother recovers.

"We'll keep it until he gets well," he said. "It's overwhelming how important he is to the community."
