Alexis Roman Hill is the new executive director of the nonprofit Kids & Horses riding program founded in 1999 by Sam Waldman. Kids & Horses offers horsemanship as therapy to improve strength, coordination and self-esteem to those with physical or emotional disabilities.
The community is invited to meet Hill and learn about Kids & Horses at a gathering sponsored by the Crystal Bay Club, Constellation Wines U.S., Bowl Incline and Brimm's Catering Co., 4-6 p.m. May 27, at the Crystal Bay Club on Lake Tahoe's north shore. Wine, beer, soft drinks and appetizers will be served.
"Kids & Horses is pleased to bring Alexis in as executive director," said exiting executive director and board member Doug Brimm. "She will bring technological and fundraising experience to the company as well as a lot of energy and enthusiasm. This experience will benefit the organization and ensure longevity of the program."
Hill's job duties include maintaining a grant-writing program, designing a corporate and philanthropic sponsorship program, and organizing the annual barbecue fundraiser.
Hill previous experience includes being sales supervisor of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and a city planner in Sparks. She received a political science degree from Texas A&M in 2005 and is enrolled in a master's program in public administration at the University of Nevada, Reno.
More than a riding program, Kids & Horses is based on the concept that every human being, regardless of their disabilities, can benefit from an equine relationship. Kids & Horses is a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association premier accredited center. Kids & Horses has benefited those with blindness, paralysis, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, emotional issues and amputation.
