Hike for Health Trails Challenge Continues

The Carson Valley Trails Association's month-long Hike for Health Trails Challenge continues Saturday. Weekly guided hikes, walks and trail adventures are offered as part of the Hike for Health Trails Challenge, Saturdays through May 22.

A four-mile hike is 7 a.m. Saturday at the Bently-Kirman Ranch Trailhead on Heybourne Road. Guides are Anne Thomas from the Nature Conservancy, John Cobourn from UNCE and Jim Woods from Birding Under Nevada Skies.

A Leave No Trace orientation hike is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fay-Luther Trailhead. Learn how to reduce damage caused by outdoor activities, then go on an easy one- to two-mile hike.

The Minden history walk is 10 a.m. Saturday at Minden Park, led by Charlotte Bass, a descendant of Carson Valley's Settelmeyer family, who discusses Minden history during the 60-90 minute walk.

The weekly guided activities are open to anyone who registers for the Hike for Health Trails Challenge. Cost is $25 for adults, $35 for families and free for age 17 and younger. Register, Chic and Sue Moxley, 265-0766, or www.carsonvalleytrails.org

The Trails Challenge gives the opportunity to engage in healthy outdoor activities and learn about trails in the Carson Valley area. The Trails Challenge is a fundraiser for CVTA's Genoa Foothill Trail System project.
