A county policy requiring volunteers to undergo background checks and be fingerprinted could hinder efforts like Candy Dance where hundreds contribute their labor to support Nevada's first settlement, Genoa Town Board members said. They instructed Town Manager Sheryl Gonzales on Tuesday to meet with representatives of the other towns to develop a policy that would satisfy the county's liability requirements while not driving away the people who help make events happen.

Stateline casinos saw a bump up for the first time in a long time with a win in March of $21.1 million, which tops March 2009 and March 2007, but it's a far cry from the $29.8 million the casinos took in during March 2008, which was a five-year high. The casinos took in $20.5 million in March 2006 and peaked during the decade at $34.3 million in 2005. The casinos at Stateline are responsible for the vast majority of Douglas County's gaming revenue.

In other math news, the water locked up in the snowpack for the Carson River Basin is running 133 percent of average this morning, according to Natural Resource Conservation Service telemetry. Most of the percentage average is being skewed by Monitor Pass and Poison Flat, which are way above their average for the day. There's 15.9 inches of moisture locked up at Poison Flat, when usually there's 5.9 inches. More telling is Ebbetts Pass which is has 6 inches more moisture than average today. Ebbetts' sensor is reading 9 inches of new snow on the mountain from Monday's storm, which contributed .6 inches of moisture to the snowpack.

Today is forecast to be sunny and warmer, with a high of 62 and a northeast breeze blowing 5-10 mph. The low tonight won't quite crack freezing.
