Centennial is this year's Carson Valley Days theme

Residents will be celebrating the centennial of Douglas County's oldest and biggest party when Carson Valley Days arrives June 10-13.

Carson Valley 20-30 Club President Brian Deaton said applications for the parade or to be a vendor or sponsor for the event are available at the group's Web site at www.carsonvalley2030.org.

At least one old-time Carson Valley Days tradition will be making a comeback this year as members of the 20-30 Club put on a free barbecue 6-8 p.m. June 11. The barbecue is first-come, first-served.

The club plans to organize a fireworks show Friday night and is actively looking for sponsors for the event.

"The more money you have the more fireworks you get," Deaton said.

The carnival will have a soft opening on Wednesday for disabled children. The two-for-one buddy night is Thursday.

Discount tickets available at Raley's and Nevada State Banks are effective for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Deaton said club members are encouraging parade participants to come up with appropriate floats for the theme.

"One example is that Carson Valley Medical Center is having people dress up in clothes medical personnel would have worn 100 years ago," he said. "That's what we want folks to do for the parade."

The big day on June 12 starts with a balloon launch in the Valley.

Check-in for the Partnership of Community Resources' Carson Valley Days Walk-Jog-Run is 6:45 a.m. with the 10K run starting at 7:45 a.m. and the 5K starting at 8 a.m. The run will start at Lampe Park and then return.

For more information contact the Partnership at 782-8611.

The parade starts at 9 a.m. in Minden and winds up in Gardnerville at Lampe Park. Highway 395 will close starting at 7 a.m. The parade route is down Esmeralda Avenue then onto Highway 395 south to Waterloo Lane.

After the parade, the club will name the citizen of the year, and there will be games.

Entertainment on Saturday night is Rick Hayes and American Steel 2-6 p.m. and Superfreak 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Carson Valley Community Food Closet holds its annual duck race. The race starts at 1 p.m. Ducks are available at the food closet, Scolari's, the Minden Street Fair and Candles and Crafts. For information, call the food closet at 782-3711.

The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Carson Valley Active 20/30 Club are co-sponsoring the second Carson Valley Days Golf Tournament on June 10 at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Space is still available. The cost for individual players is $85 and $340 for a foursome. Hole sponsorships are available for $100, or a package including a foursome and a hole sponsorship is $400.

To register to play, find out about all of the sponsorship opportunities or provide a raffle prize, contact the chamber at 782-8144 or info@carsonvalleynv.org.
