Man reports $56,000 in missing guitars, equipment

A Gardnerville resident reported last week $56,000 in guitars and equipment missing from his apartment in the 1300 block of Village Way.

The man said he returned home May 5 at 8:30 p.m. and noticed the door to his residence was ajar.

He said he was missing five guitars, five amplifiers and four guitar cabinets. He also said he was missing $800 in hundred dollar bills.

The victim said he called deputies after his insurance company told him to file a police report.

Initially, he had no idea who could have removed the items. He told deputies he remembered selling a foot pedal to a young man he met in a music store about two weeks earlier. He said the man came to his apartment, purchased the item and watched him put the money in an envelope.

He did not know the young man's name.
