Driver in fatal accident in court for drug sentencing

The driver in a fatal rollover faces sentencing this morning for using methamphetamine while he was on probation for vehicular manslaughter.

Jerrett McAlister, 27, is expected to ask Judge Dave Gamble for drug court today in Douglas County District Court.

McAlister is serving a six-month jail sentence after he admitted in justice court he violated his probation by using methamphetamine.

McAlister was the driver in a July 15, 2009, accident along Carson River that killed Christopher Medina.

He was found guilty on Feb. 18 and sentenced to 180 days in jail suspended for two years.

McAlister was arrested less than a month later after his probation officer received a tip he was dealing drugs.

In unrelated news, alleged Gardnerville drug dealer Cody Neubauer, 30, faces sentencing this morning before District Judge Dave Gamble. Neubauer was arrested Feb.11 after being seen in a Gardnerville store parking lot with several people standing around his window.

His sentencing was delayed last week.
