DHS sophomore in custody after gun threat

A 17-year-old Douglas High School sophomore was in custody today after he told students on a school bus he had a gun and was going "to shoot up the school."

The student, who was not identified, reportedly made the threat this morning on his way to school. The information was reported to staff at lunch several hours later by students who overheard the suspect.

Deputies, investigators and school administrators arrived on scene and located the student in a classroom.

Sgt. Jim Halsey said no gun was found in a search of the student and his belongings.

The suspect denied possession or bringing a firearm to campus, but admitted making the threatening statement.

He declined to say why he made the alleged threats.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Douglas County Juvenile Probation office for threatening school officials and held for a mental health evaluation.
