Partnership hosts walk, jog, run

The Partnership of Community Resources third annual Walk, Jog, Run! for Prevention begins 7:45 a.m. June 12 with the 10 K at the Douglas County Senior Center, followed by the 5 K at 8 a.m. at the south end of Lampe Park. The 100th annual Carson Valley Days parade follows the run at 9 a.m.

The event raises funds to support the Students Taking on Prevention program where Douglas County youth promote lifelong wellness and the prevention of substance abuse.

Preregistration is $30, or $5 for youth 12 and younger. Race-day registration is $40. A pre-race packet pickup is 4-8 p.m. June 11 at Pizza Barn, 1544 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Register at www.active.com, www.partnership-resource.org or 782-8611.

Gifts and prizes donated to the Walk, Jog, Run include $25 gift certificates from Big 5 Sporting Goods to the top male and female finishers of the 10k event, and two 3-month memberships donated by World Gym to be raffled off to all event entrants. Other gifts include ball caps, coffee, shoelaces, reusable bags to the first 175 entries.

This year's sponsors include Carson Valley Medical Center, Carson Valley 20-30 Club, Douglas County Employees Association, Douglas County Sheriff's Protective Association, Pizza Barn, World Gym, Starbucks, and Douglas County Parks & Recreation.

The Partnership of Community Resources has served Douglas County since 1993, advancing community alliances and providing resource referral, substance abuse prevention and wellness education. The Partnership's youth prevention advocates was created in 1999. Now called STOP, Students Taking On Prevention has more than 75 members promoting healthy choices for youth in Douglas County schools.
