Thran better qualified

I read Mr. Hettrick's letter in the May 12 issue of The R-C, and found his perception of what qualifications for the job of clerk-treasurer he felt would most benefit the people of Douglas County interesting. He seems oblivious to the fact that voters are sick of politicians. He claims he can "use innovative investment practices" to improve the county's portfolio. I wonder if he is aware that the voters are enraged at the damage "innovative investment practices" have done to our entire country including our county.

Going to the government for money is not the way to go. No. 1, the government doesn't make any money, it takes our money so politicians can give it out the way they see fit, think; bailout. No. 2, all government money comes with strings attached, think; our local airport mess.

He cites his years of experience in the Legislature and working in the governor's office as his qualifications for the job of Clerk-Treasurer. I can't quite imagine a politician wanting this job solely to serve the people and I don't see the connection.

Ted Thran has worked his way up to this position through years of doing this job. He knows it inside and out. He is a certified public accountant and has been closely involved in all phases of the election process of this county for years. These are genuine qualifications for this job.

Yes, we are satisfied with no complaints; Ted is not a politician using this office as a stepping stone for his own advancement. Mr. Hettrick infers that doing a good job and having no complaints is a negative thing, but it's a claim that he can't make after he left his political office.
