Thunderstorms forecast for today

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon as the first of two cold fronts rolls into Western Nevada.

The National Weather Service is warning anyone involved in outdoor activities near lakes or rivers should be prepared to find shelter if thunderstorms approach.

The first storm system is arriving in Western Nevada now and is expected to move through to central Nevada before diminishing. Lighting, wind gusts of 40 mph or more and small hail will accompany stronger storms.

A second storm system is due in on Monday and will bring a mix of rain and show to the Lake Tahoe basin in the morning, then snow during the afternoon.

In the Valley, winds will increase to 40 mph with stronger gusts in wind-prone areas.
