Thanks Ed Foundation

EDITOR:

I am extremely grateful to Douglas County Education Foundation for choosing "Heart Health for Kids" as one of the eleven projects they decided to fund from the many grant proposals they received. The monies granted went to purchase 26 heart rate monitors that we have begun to use in the ninth grade physical education classes at Carson Valley Middle School. We are excited to start involving them more with all physical education students in the school. The heart rate monitors offer instant, objective feedback to the student using them and for the teacher as a grading tool. The capabilities of the heart rate monitors are at the beginning of exploration and we hope to continue with even more implementation in the years to come. Thanks again Douglas County Education Foundation.

A special thank-you for all those community businesses that volunteered their time and/or opened their doors to my ninth grade aerobics students. I'd like to thank the three fitness instructors and Kenny Lammori from World Gym for volunteering their time and energy: Jan Lindsey, Body Blast; Samira Khaled, Zumba; and Lydia von Rumpf, Hip Hop Hustle. In addition, Nikki Warren of Kaia Fit, Linda Stainbrook of Fitness 10 for belly dancing, Jill Mustacchio of Yoga Loft, Larry Ward for Ballroom Dance and Carson Valley Swim Center for introducing the girls to water aerobics. My hope is that each student will have been introduced to some activity they may enjoy doing for life. Thanks for planting that seed.
