Reed was a graduate of the U.S.M.A. at Westpoint in 1939. From there he embarked on a thirty year career in the U.S. Army, artillery division. He is a WWII veteran. Col. Reed was stationed in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. After Col. Reeds retirement from the Army he went to work for General Dynamics in San Diego, CA retiring in 1978.
