Blue Jays hold on for victory

RENO — The Carson Blue Jays moved over the .500 mark for the summer season with a wild 10-8 win over McQueen Thursday night.

Carson improved to 5-4 heading into Sunday’s game (11 a.m.) against the Galena Black Sox.

“We played OK,” coach Bryan Manoukian said. “We didn’t have any bad plays.”

Carson was cruising, building up a 10-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. Manoukian put Danny Guthrie on the hill, and the right-hander gave up seven runs before Gehrig Tucker was able to close out the game.

Chazz Nystrom went the first two innings and Brandon Allen worked the next four. Both pitched very well.

Jace Zampirro hit two doubles and drove in three runs for the Blue Jays, while Joe Birri and Chase Blueberg collected two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Eight Carson players will be at Reno High for all-star games today. A game for juniors will be held at 2 p.m., and a nine-inning game for graduating seniors will follow around 4 p.m..

Tucker, Nystrom, Blueberg, Dom Norton and Zampirro will play in the junior game, while Luke Maher and Charlie Banfield will play in the senior game.

Manoukian will be one of the coaches in the senior game.
