Making up for a forgotten ‘thank you’
Last week I was at the Eagle building in north Carson City when an elderly gentleman and his wife asked if I was going up in the elevator. Once I got on the elevator, I realized the man was wearing a military hat — USS Prichett. That was the same ship my now deceased brother was also aboard during the Cuban crisis and Vietnam. The man wearing the hat said, “I was on the ship during Korea.”
I was caught in the moment looking at his hat and forgot to tell this older-generation-veteran thank you for his sacrifice and making life safer both then and now for our country and around the world. I am sorry I forgot to say thank you. Fortunately, he did not forget to serve this country!
If anyone knows this man who wears the hat “USS Prichett,” please tell him I said thank you. His generation made my family and all of us living during and after the Korean War safe and only recently did I learn the danger lurking off the Pacific at that time and living in southern California. I know my brother walked in this veteran’s footsteps aboard the USS Prichett. Thank you to all the military men and women for all you have done and will do for us here and around the world.

You can’t see faith, but it’s as real as gravity
In response to Gretchen Godfrey, I understand your frustration concerning the subject of faith. Roman 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So both our faith to believe God and our ability to hear God speak came from hearing and reading His word.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Believing God for things we need proves that faith is real because we can’t believe without it. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them and diligently seek him.”
When you said, “Yet using that book and its content to attempt to prove a point is vacuous,” were you saying that God is vacuous? Or unintelligent? That book, the King James Bible, is God, and God is His word. God spoke everything into existence with a built-in ability to reproduce itself.
Answered prayer is proof of faith. Just because we can see some things doesn’t mean they’re not real. We can’t see gravity or air, but we know they are a reality. We can’t see God either, but His creation proves His existence. There’s only one truth: God’s truth. Your unbelief doesn’t change that fact or that faith is a fact and I thank God for the management at the Nevada Appeal.
