Valley gardeners add to food closet's summer bounty

The month of August brought lots of fresh vegetables to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet from local gardeners. In addition, the farmers market at Lampe Park generously contributed produce. The fresh tomatoes, squash and zucchini were distributed with groceries to qualified individuals and families in need. We wish to thank all who contributed produce.

The following donations were received for August (in pounds): Marco Ferrell, organic produce (343), Helping Hands Food Drive (65), Kenneth Nelson (37), Douglas County School Nutrition Office (212), Michael Smith (80), Hungry Mother Organics (345), Ralston Purina (1,368), Gene Clark (100), Douglas County Public Library (40), Ryah Foundation (310), Christ Presbyterian Church (35), Pro Planit, water (900), farmers market (592), Stone (33), St. Gall Catholic Church (688), Critter Junction (311), in memory of Jerry Northway (142), Ray Cardinal (25), Sertoma (35), Gold Dust West Casino (132), Russell's Mercantile (99) and numerous anonymous.

Regular grocery contributors are: Raley's, Scolari's, Smith's, Costco, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Pony Espresso, Shell Country Store and Vanity Bakery.

The food closet is currently in need of canned soup, stew, chili, ravioli and peanut butter. Please drop off your donation of food at 1255 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.
