Kudos for those who donate to food closet

EDITOR:

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We continue to receive wonderful donations of food, toiletries and other essentials and are so thankful. We have even been getting fresh produce from local gardeners and they are so welcome. One of our clients has a family member on a special diet and commented, "It is really expensive to buy fresh, healthier foods." It sure is, and we are thrilled to be able to help provide some of these fresh fruits and vegetables.

If there are any others of you out there who have gardens starting to produce more than you need, we encourage you to stop by and donate what you can't use. Just call Eileen at 782-3711 to arrange a time or just stop by the Carson Valley Community Food Closet at 1244 Waterloo, Gardnerville, while we're open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to drop off whatever you wish to donate. We also have clients who have minimal or no refrigeration and we could use canned stew or other complete meals that can be stored on a shelf.

The following donations were received in July (in pounds): Douglas County School Nutrition Office (459), Douglas County Public Library (194), Cindy Hill (155), Coventry Cross Episcopal Church (35), Lynne (305), farmers market vendors (314), Jeannette and Don Johnson (13), Carson Valley United Methodist Church (233), St. Gall Catholic Church (429), Douglas County Democratic Women (104), Kentucky Fried Chicken (30), Ruhenstroth Fire Department (5), Mr. and Mrs. Laglands (32), Carson Valley Inn (8), Soroptimists (20). Thanks to all you anonymous donors as well.

As always we so thank the local merchants for their donations, Raley's, Smith's, Scolari's, Walmart, Starbucks of Minden and Gardnerville, Costco, Trader Joe's, Shell Country Store and Variety Bakery.

Cash donations were received from A. Peters, R. Edling, V. Craik, Carson Valley Kiwanis, Scolari's customers and employees, Burl and Rosemarie Middendorf, C. Curtis, B. Fettic, E. Hartman, Oxoby Mobile Home Park, D. Langfords, Coventry Cross Episcopal Church, Smith's Neighbor to Neighbor Program, Raley's customers and employees.

Thanks again.
