Genoa, Nev. — Firefighters from across the region are responding to a 100-acre wildfire that began with the loss of a home in Pine View Estates south of Gardnerville. Evacuations have been announced in the area.
A red flag warning for high fire danger continues across the Sierra Front and into Northern Nevada through midnight tonight. Minden’s forecast to see southwest winds 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph today. At least it’ll be cooler at 77 degrees.
Firefighters were seeking help from Nevada State Police with traffic on Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts. There was no report the highway was closed this morning, but that could change should the fire shift direction.
The smoke was running along the base of the Pine Nuts just before dawn this morning. I don’t think we’ll see a big plume until the wind dies back. Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew is on its way to help fight the wildland fire.
The Concert in the Park in Minden features The Urban Renewal Project 6 p.m. today. People have already started putting out chairs.
The concert was one of longtime R-C contributor Stacey Weatherbee’s favorite events. A celebration of her life is 2 p.m. today at 1619 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden.
