Genoa, Nev. — A $350,000 sidewalk project along 10th Street and $600,000 in water line replacement are among the items on the Minden capital improvement plan for this year. Minden Town Board members meet 5:30 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall on Esmeralda Avenue.

A proposal to bump up the hourly rate for Genoa’s second part-time office person $1.87 to $22.67 goes before the town board at their meeting 5:30 p.m. in the Genoa Town Hall.

The R-C is opening its new office in Minden 9 a.m. today. There isn’t much parking in and around there, so maybe don’t all rush in at once. There’s an error in the print story on the hours, because of course there is. We’re going to be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, though we may be closed should Sarah or I have to run on a news event.

East Fork responded 5 p.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke in a house on Sandstone Drive in Wellington. Firefighters spent about 90 minutes on scene. I’ll follow up today to find out what happened.

The U.S. Forest Service burn above Genoa prompted a fire call on Tuesday afternoon. There was a lot of smoke coming from that on my way home, so I’m not surprised. Expect that to hang with us for a while.

Thermometers around the Valley are registering zero as I write this. It looks like the forecast cloud cover didn’t make an appearance, but at least we’ll have sunny skies this morning.

The high temperature is expected to hit 41 degrees with the wind calm under mostly sunny skies. If the cloud cover turns up tonight the low will drop to around 21 degrees.
