Genoa, Nev. — It’s no secret that The R-C has had delivery issues in Genoa and Gardnerville over the past month. There is a possibility of some light at the end of the tunnel, though. A new carrier is taking over the Genoa routes on Wednesday. That will free up folks to backfill the Gardnerville route, answer calls and hopefully begin the carrier route to recovery.

The last weekend of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” opens tonight at the CVIC Hall in Minden. They are doing a matinee 2 p.m. Saturday so the Douglas High students in the cast may also participate in prom on Saturday night.

Douglas County is preparing for four days of budget hearings next week. Of the county’s roughly $129 million budget this year about 41.8 percent are employees and 26.8 percent are services and supplies. Commissioners will get started 10 a.m. Monday. I have a feeling they’ll be taking the whole four days.

As of today, no precipitation has fallen since Feb. 15 in Minden. That may change starting late Sunday night with the National Weather Service giving odds it will rain, with a possibility of .14 inches. It isn’t much, but it’s more than has fallen in Minden during all of 2022.

But before the front arrives, a 15-year high temperature record may fall today with a forecast high of 82 degrees in Minden. The record of 78 degrees was set in 2007. It’s going to be sunny and warm today.
