Rain started falling in Carson Valley around 4 a.m. as a storm arrived bringing heavy snow to the Carson Range and snarling traffic.

Road controls were in effect on Kingsbury Grade all the way down to Foothill and on Highway 50 from the state line to just above Carson Valley as the storm started dumping snow above 6,000 feet.

Trucks were being held on Interstate 80 as road controls were implemented from the Nevada state line west.

Chain controls were implemented around 8:30 a.m. on State Route 88 from Kirkwood to Red Creek. Chains are also required on Highway 89 between Hope Valley and Meyers and on Highway 50 over Echo Summit.

By 9 a.m. .62 inches had fallen in Genoa, according to the National Weather Service, with most of that since dawn.

Rainfall totals decreased across the Valley, with the gauge at the Fish Springs Fire Department recording .10 inches while a gauge in upper Johnson Lane recorded .17 inches.
