Eagles and Agriculture tours are back on the calendar for February after being delayed in January due to weather.

While the weekend following the big Jan. 27 storm was relatively mild, the fields that serve as venue for the event were a muddy mess.

In previous years, the tours were conducted in buses, but because of coronavirus restrictions, participants are providing their own transportation for the Feb. 19-21 event.

Carson Valley may see a reminder that it’s still winter this week, with two storms expected to put an end to mild days starting tonight.

According to the National Weather Service the first storm is expected to bring wind and a little rain to the Valley starting this afternoon.

Wind gusts of up to 100 mph over the Sierra ridges and 35-45 mph along the Highway 395 corridor are forecast.

That’s just the opener for a second storm on Saturday that could bring snow down to the Valley floor.

As of Wednesday morning, forecasters said models are showing the weekend storm could be building, but might not bring much precipitation to the Valley.

“This storm looks to be pretty shadowed for the lower valleys of Western Nevada with snow levels falling late Saturday night to valley floors,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Alex Hoon said. “However, the storm will be tapering off quickly after midnight so there might not be much time to see any accumulations for the valleys.”

Another storm forecast to arrive late Sunday through President’s Day will also be shadowed in Western Nevada.

“For anyone planning travel back over the Sierra on Monday, expect winter driving conditions over the passes and weather delays,” Hoon said.
