Dayton softball rolls at Truckee; baseball splits with Truckee

Dayton used an explosive offense and great pitching by Caleigh Onstott and Amanda Woitas to sweep Truckee in a Northern 3A softball doubleheader on Monday.

Dayton won 18-0 and 15-1. Both games ended after five innings because of the mercy rule.

In the 18-0 win, Woitas pitched a 2-hitter and struck out six.

Cassie Dickenson, Julie Rogacs, Tamia Powell and Onstott all had two hits. Rogacs drove in three runs and Onstott drove in two. Marissa Hein hit a solo homer.

Dayton scored five in the first and never looked back.

In the 15-1 win, Onstott tossed a 4-hitter, and she was helped by a nine-run second inning.

Aleea Howe went 2-for-2, Hein went 2-for-4 and Elizabeth Vincent went 2-for-3. Powell had a hit and two RBI. Rogacs, Onstott and Powell all had two RBI for the Dust Devils.

Dayton High’s baseball team opened its Northern 3A schedule with a doubleheader split against Truckee.

Dayton took the opener, 8-3, and lost the nightcap, 7-4.

In the opener, Trevor Burrows went 6.2 innings, fanned 12 and allowed five. He hit a solo homer in the first to jump start the Dayton offense. Jake Madson went 3-for-5, Carlos Hernandez tripled and Zach Woitas had two hits.

In the second game, Truckee snapped a 4-all tie with three fifth-inning runs.

Hernandez and Woitas each contributed two hits. Hernandez drove in two runs.
