The R-C Morning Report

A dense fog advisory is in effect for Carson Valley this morning. The fog is pretty thick out there with the National Weather Service estimating visibility at a quarter mile or less in many areas, and zero in others. Expect reduced visibility on Highway 395 this morning for the commute. The Weather Service advises motorists to use low beam headlights, slow down and allow for extra room between vehicles.

The National Weather Service has also issued a statement regarding two winter weather systems due to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. The systems will bring gusty winds, mountain snow and Valley rain. Forecasters are calling for significant snowfall in the Sierra with accumulations of up to 6 inches in the Tahoe Basin and in Mono County west of Highway 395. Winds will gust up to 55 mph. Today it will be foggy with a high temperature of 47 degrees, with a chance of rain tonight. The wind will blow at about 5 mph.

A joyride in 2007 may result in a jail term for a 20-year-old former Reno woman who was allowed to go to Ohio for drug treatment. Leah Turner is due to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning on a bench warrant in connection with her deferred sentencing so she could go to Ohio for drug treatment. Turner pleaded guilty to possession of a methamphetamine after she and three others were arrested in two stolen vehicles at Glenbrook.
