The R-C Morning Report

Merry Christmas Eve eve. If you've got business with the county, state or the feds, it would be best to conduct it today because they're all going to be closed on Friday. Also many banks will be closed. Even we ink-stained wretches at The Record-Courier will be off, visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads (like always). The U.S. Post Office will be delivering the mail on Christmas Eve, but according to the USPS Web site, lobbies for most sites will close early.

There's a pogonip out this morning that may cause motorists some heartburn. According to a National Weather Service freezing fog advisory, visibility will be down to a quarter mile at times in the Valleys. And if not being able to see doesn't slow folks down, the prospect of icy patches on the roadway may.

Our Christmas storm is trending south toward Mono County, which has forecasters suggesting folks planning to travel Highway 395 south perhaps hop over the Sierra up here or wait until Monday when there will be a break in the weather.

Today's forecast is for dense freezing fog clearing around 10 a.m. and then mostly cloudy skies. The high temperature to day will be 42 degrees, the low tonight, back down to in the mid 20s. Christmas Eve will be nice, but Christmas night will be naughty with rain likely and winds 15-25 mph.
