The R-C Morning Report

South Douglas County residents have been getting packets in the mail from the U.S. Attorney's Office. That's right, domestic well owners, you've been named in a lawsuit between the Walker River Paiute Tribe and the Walker River Irrigation District. A source close to the litigation said it's unlikely our folks will be affected by the lawsuit, but the packet includes a waiver of summons that has residents scratching their heads and making calls. My source suggests that signing the waiver won't affect recipients' rights to contest the lawsuit and might save them the cost of being served in person by the U.S. Marshal's Office. When I asked what people should do, the source said residents who have questions need to hire an attorney.

It won't seem like it today, but within two days, the weather is going to take a 180 degree turn that will result in a 34-degree drop in the high temperature. National Weather Service forecasters have posted a 50 percent chance that it will snow a little on Friday. They do tend to get over exuberant in the beginning of the season, but it will be windy and cold by the weekend. The forecast high on Saturday is 48 degrees. The low is going to kill any plants you saved during last week's freeze.

If you haven't shut down your watering system yet, now is the time to do it. Wrap those pipes, drain those sprinklers, and shut off the water to the irrigation system. You'll be glad you did. Today's high temperature is supposed to hit 81 degrees under sunny skies.
