Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners voted 3-2 for an ordinance to eliminate the 13 permitted vacation home rentals north of Cave Rock effective Dec. 31, 2024. I anticipate some litigation may slow that roll.

With Christmas on Monday, today marks the beginning of the work world’s longest Christmas Eve. We’re closing The R-C at noon, but the Internet is open 24-7. We’ll be closed on Christmas Day, too.

Thursday was opening night for Carson Valley Theatre’s “Wacky and Wonderful Christmassy Stuff, a Yuletide Cabaret.” The show continues 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday, with a matinee 1 p.m. Saturday. They’ll do it all again next week. Visit www.carsonvalleycommunitytheatre.org for more information.

Snow telemetry in the Sierra indicates we’re running about half average snow-water equivalent in the Carson River Basin, and Walker is doing slightly worse. Heavenly Valley is at 58 percent, while Monitor Pass is at 45 percent.

Minden-Tahoe Airport’s automated weather station is indicating freezing fog with a visibility of around a quarter-mile this morning. That might make for a slick commute this morning, so take it slow.

The fog is forecast to burn off around 10-11 a.m. today with sunny skies and a high temperature of 52 degrees. There’s a slight possibility of some rain or snow after 1 a.m. tonight as a little storm sneaks through, though it’ll be a Christmas miracle.
