Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today at the historic Douglas County courthouse in Minden to discuss among other utility-related items, the award of a $2.37 million contract to build a new water tank in Johnson Lane and run pipe down to the Carson City water line. The tank will serve as the reservoir for the water Minden is selling to Carson.

Comptroller Claudette Springmeyer is up for the position of public guardian today, officially replacing Lynn EnEarl, whose resignation from the position was effective on Wednesday. EnEarl, who also resigned as public administrator, was re-elected to the position on Nov. 2 and will take office Jan. 1 unless she resigns again. The county is proposing to appoint Springmeyer to that position for the next month. The appointment means that Springmeyer must resign as comptroller. County Manager T. Michael Brown is proposing to establish a position of finance director.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory starting 10 a.m., and bringing breezes 15-30 mph gusting to 50 mph. Anticipate travel difficulties along Highway 395 for high profile vehicles. Expect winds to hit their highest speeds tonight before the advisory expires at 10 p.m.

The winds are blowing in a little bit of moisture that will bring more snow to the Sierra above 7,000 feet, but rain in the Valley. There's a chance for isolated showers tonight after the front passes tonight. There doesn't seem to be much moisture associated with this storm. Today the weather will be mostly cloudy with a high of 53 degrees.
