A high wind warning from 10 tonight to 10 a.m. Friday has been issued by the National Weather Service. A strong storm system will move into the Pacific Northwest bringing a cold front into Western Nevada. According to the National Weather Service, winds will start accelerating over the area on Thursday afternoon and reach their peak of 15-30 mph tonight with gusts of up to 60 mph. Local gusts could reach 70 mph between midnight and dawn. Winds should die down on Friday morning. A high wind warning means winds strong enough to cause property damage and difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles.
Douglas High School is hosting its annual holiday concert 7:30 tonight in the school commons, 1670 Highway 88 in Minden. Everything we've come to know and love about the Tiger band will be on display, including the Madrigals and the Image jazz choir. The storm is predicted to bring a small chance of moisture starting with rain tonight and then changing to snow on Friday and through the weekend. The percentages top out at 40 percent on Saturday night, with a slight chance of up to an inch of snow in the Valley. Other than the wind warning hanging over our heads, today will be a pretty nice day. The temperature at 6 a.m. is 46 degrees in Genoa and the high today is predicted to hit 62. However, the barometer is falling.
There's a high wind advisory through Washoe Valley, so no going to Reno with that big billboard strapped to the top of the car. High profile vehicles are definitely not advised.
