A proposal to raise water rates in the East Valley and a presentation on a proposed rate increase on the West Valley are on today's Douglas County commission agenda today. Commissioners meet in the Douglas County Administrative Building in Minden. The county has been making its way around its water funds, increasing rates to include administrative costs in preparation to consolidate their management. I had a talk with a Genoa resident who said her rates are proposed to go up 20 percent in Sierra Shadows. She wasn't very happy about it, that's for sure.
Other water news at the commission includes a public hearing on the county's plan to issue $1.2 million in water bonds to build improvements to the Jobs Peak Water System. Today's meeting gets rolling at 1 p.m. The meeting times out at roughly four hours.
Whatever moisture was in the forecast on Tuesday has evaporated. The front will bring winds and lower temperatures, but it appears no precipitation. Look for mostly sunny skies with a high near 64. Winds will be 10-20 mph with gusts of up to 30 mph through tonight. The wind will keep blowing through the weekend, with highs dropping into the low 50s by Sunday.
