Volunteers will be helping out at the Minden McDonald's fundraiser for Becca Martin 4-8 p.m. today when the restaurant will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to help the 11-year-old who was injured when she was hit by a car the day before school started. Donations may be made to Nevada State Bank Account No. 0598016426 in the name of Sabrina or Rebecca Martin.

Douglas County planning commissioners approved a special use permit for Hamdogs to convert the zoning on the property to tourist commercial and allow non-restricted gaming at the longtime Gardnerville restaurant. Their recommendation will go to Douglas County commissioners for final approval.

At least a couple of Douglas County commissioners are coming to Genoa tonight to help pack candy for the annual Candy Dance Fair and fundraiser Sept. 26 and 27. Candy Chairwoman Marian Vassar reported candymaking went well this year. Genoans have been raising money for the town by selling candy and holding a dance since 1919.

Bear scat has been spotted in Genoa, meaning we've been getting late-night visitors checking out the apple crop, which is substantial. They'll be busting out the ladders later to fatten up for winter.

Expect the weather to stay sunny and warm for a little bit longer. Today will be sunny with clear skies and a high in the upper 80s.
