The R-C Morning Report

Two festival permits for Candy Dance weekend come before Douglas County commissioners at their regular meeting. Permits for the Boutique at the White House and the Genoa Peddlers Fair are the third and fourth items on the action agenda. The two festivals are coming to commissioners with the unexpected support of the Genoa Town Board, with the proposal that all festivals in town will come under a single permit next year. Commissioners meet starting 1 p.m. today at the old Minden courthouse on Eighth Street.

Also on today's agenda, Douglas Disposal is seeking a 3.51 to 5.69 percent rate increase for residential collection and a 4.56-5.58 percent increase for commercial collection. The increase means residents now paying $49.44 a quarter for a single 45-gallon container would have to pay $52.05 should the increase be approved.

It will be sunny and warm today, but that won't last. The National Weather Service is predicting winter will make a comeback early next week, with a chance of snow Monday through Wednesday. I don't know if it will actually snow, but it will get colder with the highs dropping into the 40s next week, so don't plant anything, no matter how nice it is this weekend.
