Animal group hosts Super Bowl event

Douglas Animal Welfare Group's annual "Super Dog" tailgate adoption party is Jan. 31, the day before the Super Bowl.

The dog adoption event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas County Animal Shelter located at 921 Pinenut Road, Gardnerville.

In keeping with the Super Bowl theme, chili, soft drinks and other super bowl fare will be free for attendees.

About 20 dogs will be available for adoption. Volunteers will help potential adopters get acquainted with the dogs and help them find a pet that is a good match for their family.

"A variety of dogs are available for adoption, and our members have extensive knowledge about each animal," group president Cherie Owen said. "Once a dog is adopted, DAWG follows up to ensure a successful transition for the dog and the family."

Each adoption includes a free spay or neuter, free microchip and AVID registration, up to a $75 reimbursement for obedience training and a pizza card. The new owner can select either group obedience training or individual training at their home.

For more information about this event call 782-2323, or go to the Web site at www.dawgrescue.com.

DAWG is a non-profit organization whose mission is to better the lives of Douglas County animals by improving their adoptability and to increase the adoption rate of the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
