Staff Reports

Volunteers with the Douglas Animal Welfare Group host an emergency adoption event, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27, at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road, Gardnerville, across from the fairgrounds.

The population at the facility increased rapidly recently along with the need to find homes for the animals. The shelter is near capacity.

Potential adopters may visit the shelter before the adoption event to look for pets. Shelter staff and DAWG volunteers are available to assist 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturdays. The shelter is staffed with volunteers and is open exclusively for adoptions 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Each adoption includes a free spay or neuter, free microchip and AVID registration, up to a $75 reimbursement for obedience training and a pizza card. New owners may select either group obedience training or individual training at home.
