The Town of Gardnerville's last movie in the park of the summer is Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" on Sept. 5. The movie begins at dusk in Heritage Park, a block east of Highway 395 off Gilman. Information, gardnerville-nv.gov.


Minden

Last concert in Minden Park today

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department's 12th annual Summer Family Concert Series in Minden Park concludes with the Michael Powers Group, 6-8 p.m. today. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be sold by the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 with proceeds to be used for community projects.

The Seattle-based Michael Powers Group is Powers on guitar, Dave Austin on drums and Eddy Ferguson on bass. Powers describes what he plays as contemporary instrumental music: rooted in jazz, with pop and R&B styles and inspired by the blues. His music features guitar as a solo voice and is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Charlie Parker, George Benson, Miles Davis and Kevin Eubanks.

Carson Valley Inn entertainment

Melissa Dru appears through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Melissa Dru and her band entertain with top 40, classic rock and pop music. Their style and stage presence appeal to a wide range of audiences. The band is Dru on vocals, rhythm guitar and percussion; Mick Hampson on vocals and guitar; Mike Makarov on bass and vocals and Nathan Rodney on drums and vocals.

Major Link takes the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and plays until Sept. 7. San Francisco Bay area band Major Link is one of the most requested groups at the Carson Valley Inn. The band is Terry Saunders on guitar and Mary Owens on keyboards and vocals who cover a full range of pop, R&B and good old rock 'n' roll.

Courtroom drama tickets on sale

The Carson Valley Community Theatre presents "Night of January 16th" by Ayn Rand.

The courtroom drama will be performed two weekends: Sept. 12-14 and Sept. 19-21 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Evening performances are 7 p.m., Sunday matinees are 2 p.m.

"Night of January 16th" offers suspense, intrigue and a surprise ending. It is recommended for mature audiences.

Ticket prices are $12 to $15 for regular performances and $17 to $20 for the opening night champagne gala Sept. 12.

Optional dinner/show packages with wine for the Sept. 13, 19 and 20 performances are available for $46 at Barone & Reed Food Co. in Minden.

Thirst parlor happenings

Wild Willy Strickland plays guitar and keyboards, beginning 6-10 p.m. today at Genoa Bar and Saloon.

Strickland, who's been called the world's fastest song writer by Lacy J. Dalton, lives in Virginia Highlands and plays dates with Dalton at Piper's Opera House. He's played at the Silver Dollar Saloon, the Bucket of Blood Saloon, sings classic country, outlaw country, Sinatra, Stevie Ray Vaughn and is known for his Johnny Cash tribute.

The Genoa Bar offers a free juke box 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays and free pool 6-10 p.m. Wednesdays. The Autumn Equinox Party featuring the Bar BQ Boys is 5-9 p.m. Sept. 20.
