Autumn isn't the only new season to arrive. Election season is here and unlike the weather, will continue to heat up as November approaches.

Tonight the South County Association will host a candidates' night starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Topaz Ranch Estates Community Park building. Information, 266-3796.

The Douglas County Historical Society will be making their pitch for approval of Question 3 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

The historical folks will be going head to head Thursday with smoking prevention night 6 p.m. at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, Judi the Manners Lady 7 p.m. at Scarselli Elementary School and the Elks Taco Night 5-7 p.m.

As of mid-September, the number of voters in Douglas County hit 26,715 active voters and 1,888 inactive voters. Republicans make up the vast majority of that county with 14,881 active voters and Democrats are the second party with 7,081.

There are 3,547 non-partisan voters in the county. Independent Americans make up the largest of the county's small parties with 894 voters with Libertarians trailing far behind at 171.

The weather will stay mostly clear to partly cloudy through the weekend with high temperatures dropping into the 70s on Sunday and staying there.

Today's weather will be mostly sunny with a light east wind and a high of 84. The low will be 34.
