Genoa, Nev. — The third red flag warning of the season has been issued for 1-11 p.m. today across Western Nevada. The forecast calls for 15-20 mph west winds, gusting to 35 mph today, with low humidity under sunny skies. If you were planning on an activity involving sparks and outdoor vegetation, maybe wait a bit.


The second fatal collision reportedly involving impairment on Highway 50 in three months snarled traffic Sunday evening on Spooner Grade on Sunday. Two people were ejected from a vehicle containing five that was heading up to Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club named Jodi Wass Carson Valley Days citizen of the year and All About Dance was the overall winning entry. I’m still sorting out the rest from Carson Valley Days from the weekend.


This year’s celebration was a farewell of sorts for past Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club president and current Sergeant of Arms Tommy Lovell, who ages out of the club this year. He said he’s looking forward to having his Wednesday nights free, and he’ll enjoy Carson Valley Days from the other side, now.


Lake Tahoe rescuers pulled two people out of the water around 4:30 p.m. Friday after a kayak overturned near Skyland. Both were wearing life preservers, and there was no transport.


East Fork firefighters responded to a horsewoman who broke her leg up in Brunswick Canyon around 2 p.m. Saturday. They had to go up and get her because the terrain was too rough for the helicopter to land. She was transported safely to Renown.
