The man accused of shooting Kathy Jean Weiland on Dec. 16, 2024, in Johnson Lane denied the allegations on Monday.
Gregory Raymond Ward, 63, allegedly shot Weiland then attempted to shoot himself. Weiland was pronounced dead at the scene and Ward was taken to Renown Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries for what was reported to be a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, before he was taken into custody by the Douglas County Sherriff’s Office.
Ward is being charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bail pending a Feb. 3, 2026, trial date.
Ward is one of four people being held in connection with homicides.
Two people are facing charges in the August 2023 death of Paul Adam Mulkey, 43.
Melissa Nicole Malmstedt, 42, of Johnson Lane and Larry Allen Arnold, 48, of Carson City are scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court today in connection with the case.
Malmstedt was found competent to aid in her defense on April 22.
Arnold was arrested in North Dakota and arrived to face charges in Douglas County on April 11.
Both are being held without bail on charges of murder in the first degree and conspiracy.
A man being held in connection with the Feb. 13 shooting of Charles Edward Wilkinson in Kingslane is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in July. Gary Allen Dillishaw, 26, is being held without bail after he fled the county and was arrested in Mineral County early on Feb. 14.

Being held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, Stephen Michael Pawlowski, 64, is scheduled to appear on May 27 in Tahoe Township Justice Court.
