The Carson City man accused of the shooting death of Gardnerville resident Charles Edward Wilkinson appeared in court on Wednesday with his newly appointed attorney.
Gary Allen Dillishaw, 25, has been in Douglas County custody since he was arrested in Mineral County on Feb. 14.
Attorney Matthew Ence said he’d just received the appointment and sought a continuance of an arraignment and bail hearing for two weeks to review the complaint.
Prosecutor Jim Sibley agreed to a March 7 date, which is a Friday, to give more time to possibly present evidence and allow Wilkinson’s family to weigh in on bail.
Dillishaw is currently held without bail on an open murder charge in connection with the Feb. 13 shooting.
Mineral County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a white Honda Accura early on Feb. 14 southbound on Highway 95 between Hawthorne and Luning. They attempted to stop the Honda, and the driver led deputies on a pursuit onto Garfield Flats Road.
“The suspect vehicle crashed becoming disabled and the suspect fled on foot into the desert,” according to Mineral County’s social media. “Deputies closed in on the suspect, who was holding a cell phone in one hand and a handgun in the other. Mineral County Sheriff K-9 Nora deployed resulting in the suspect dropping the firearm.”
Dillishaw is one of three people currently in Douglas custody without bail accused in separate murders.
Melissa Nicole Malmstedt, 42, is scheduled to return to East Fork Justice Court on March 5 in connection with the August 2023 shooting death of Carson City resident Paul Adam Mulkey, 42.
She last appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Feb. 12 with attorneys Max Stovall and Matthew Stermitz where she waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing.
She also waived her right to an immediate bail hearing, with defense attorneys saying they would seek that at some point.
Malmstedt, and Larry Allen Arnold, 48, are accused of luring Mulkey to an area at the top of Stephanie Way, where he was found on Aug. 14, 2023, by a passerby shot dead. Malmsteadt was arrested Dec. 30, 2024, at her Johnson Lane home, while Arnold was last reported to be in custody in North Dakota.
The third person being held is Johnson Lane resident Gregory Raymond Ward, 63, who is accused of shooting and killing Kathy Jean Weiland, 63, on Dec. 15, 2024, at the home they shared.
Ward suffered serious injuries when he apparently shot himself.
During a Jan. 24 hearing, East Fork Justice of the Peace Laurie Trotter ruled Ward should be held without bail. Ward is also scheduled to return to justice court on March 5. He is represented by Reno Attorney Theresa Ristenpart and Stovall.
In Nevada, murder is the only crime there is no requirement that bail be set.
