After years of playing together in club volleyball, Carson High’s Sarah Miller and Douglas High’s Shasta Garr will potentially share the floor at Feather River College (Quincy, Calif.) next season.

The two made their commitments official Monday night, signing at Silver State Volleyball Club in Carson.

“They (Feather River) contacted me first. … My dad actually grew up in Quincy so it was like home to me. I go there every summer,” said Miller. “It’s always been a dream of mine to take something to the next level.”

Miller was a two-time first team all-region selection for the Senators as both a junior and a senior.

As a senior, Miller helped lead Carson to a 22-9 record with a team-high 259 kills.

She also led the team in blocks (56) while finishing third in aces (49).

Miller’s on-court energy was impossible to miss at Carson and will undoubtedly carry over onto the floor with the Golden Eagles.

As a senior Douglas, Garr was second on the team in kills with 98 while scooping up 40 digs and serving 16 aces.

Her junior season, Garr put together 106 kills on the attack.

“I’ve been in love with volleyball since I was 10. I’ve always wanted to play in college,” said Garr. “I think I’m calm on the court. I don’t think I get too high or too low.”

The competitive juices between the two collided when they played against each other in high school as each tried to alert their teammates to the other’s tendencies.

“I knew I had to play my best and give my teammates tips on how Sarah would hit,” said Garr.

“It made it more fun that I had someone on the other side that I knew everything about that them,” said Miller.

The two will join the Golden Eagles this fall and compete in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

Last season, Feather River ended the year with a 27-6-1 record and played for the CCCAA state championship, falling to San Diego Mesa in three sets.

In the classroom, Miller says plans to study agriculture business, while Garr said she wants to study business.
