The Douglas High School girls cross country will be competing back at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno on Saturday after qualifying for the Class 5A state cross country meet last Friday.

The top five teams from the Class 5A North regional meet also punched their ticket to the state cross country meet.

As a unit, Douglas was fifth after besting Spanish Springs by three points for the final team spot.

Lucy Nord was the Tigers’ first finisher, taking 18th in a time of 22:22.

Senior Niza Barton and junior Ayla Nelson were close behind with 25th and 26th place finishes, respectively.

Freshman Amy Van Wagenen and sophomore Logan Axtell were 28th and 30th overall, rounding out the Tigers’ point scorers.


Boys cross country sends three to state

Luke Davis, Sage Spencer and Dennis Jorgensen will spend another week competing in cross country after all three qualified for the Class 5A state cross country meet.

At last weeks regional meet, Davis was a top 10 finisher, taking eighth in 17:34, missing the medal stand by one place.

Spencer, a sophomore, was 16th overall in 18:03 while Jorgensen, a senior, took 31st as an individual in 18:53.

As a team, Douglas was seventh leaving individual runners to punch their own ticket to state.

The top five teams from the Northern 5A regional meet qualified as squads.
