The Minden Farmers Market is scheduled to open today for its 21st summer on Esmeralda Avenue.

The market, founded in 2007, closes Esmeralda Avenue and often features live music.

Organized by longtime Minden businesswoman Roxanne Stangle, the market is open 4-8 p.m. Tuesdays through September.

On Wednesday, the first Just a Drop In Farmers Market will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This will be the fourth year the market is conducted in Heritage Park.

“Heritage Park is going to have more vendors as the summer comes and activities,” said new owner Teressa Bennis. “Each week we will be star casting a vendor or two, and we will keep the Big Bag giveaway.”

She said the market will start east of Gilman Avenue before expanding into the larger part of the park.

I know with this opportunity I will be able to grow this market to its full potential,” she said. “This park is a secret gem.”

Bennis has owned Just a Drop essential oil and gift shop in the Stratton Center since 2018.

She has lived in the Valley since the 1970s, having gone to grade school and graduated from Douglas High School.

She has participated in the Farmers Market since before it moved from Lampe to Heritage Park.

Just a Drop was named business-volunteer of the year for Main Street Gardnerville in 2020.

Under a contract approved by the Town of Gardnerville, the market will operate every Wednesday through Sept. 6.

Sponsored by the town and Main Street Gardnerville, the market is just the beginning of events in downtown.

The first Third Thursday Wine Walk is 4:30-7:30 p.m. and will continue every month into October, depending on the weather.
