The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony is 1 p.m. today at the Capital Complex in Carson City.

The run precedes National Police Memorial Week which is May 9-15.

A week after the baton set off from Las Vegas, Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies crossed Jack Wright Pass on Highway 208 at around 7:10 a.m. for the second to the last leg of the 23rd Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run.

Runners carrying a baton destined for Carson City were escorted by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Highway Patrol vehicles as they traveled toward Holbrook Junction

The runner arrived at Holbrook Junction around 8:40 a.m. this morning and the procession turned north on Highway 395.

Runners are expected to pass through downtown Gardnerville just before lunchtime.

In all, Douglas relay runners will travel 45 miles through the county before handing the baton off to Carson City in Indian Hills the way to the Capitol.

Motorists should expect delays as the runners and their escort make their way up Highway 395.

The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony is 1 p.m. Thursday.

The 23rd annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run begins Wednesday in Las Vegas for the May 4 ceremony in Carson City.

The relay race will cross 447 miles between the two cities, traveling north on Highway 95 and then across to Highway 395 for the final leg through Douglas County.

Members of Douglas County law enforcement agencies are expected to transfer the baton at 7 a.m. May 3 in Topaz Ranch Estates and travel 45 miles through the Pine Nuts before handing off to Carson City in Indian Hills to carry the baton the rest of the way.

Motorists should expect delays as the runners and their escort make their way up Highway 395.
