Genoa, Nev. — Update: The Pony Express Re-Rider is on Highway 89 passing Big Meadow as of 10:40 a.m. and is on time to arrive at Woodfords at 1:11 p.m. and is on trail along Highway 50 heading this way at 5:34 a.m. and is running around three hours late, according to the latest report from the trail. It was a rough ride into the Sierra, according to reports. You can follow along at nationalponyexpress.org


Carson Valley Days officially starts 4 p.m. today with the carnival, the craft and food booths in Lampe Park. It’s Buddy Day, which means if you and a friend buy one ticket for $30, the second one is $15. Presale tickets aren’t valid until Friday.

Main Street Gardnerville is hosting a Discover Downtown & Mingle 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Mid-Town West Plaza, home of Woodetts, according to Director Jen Nalder.


I shoveled a couple of piles of cottonwood fluff off the deck on Wednesday. At least it’s not as heavy as snow, but it’s getting everywhere.


Forecast thunderstorms didn’t turn up on Wednesday, so the Weather Service is doubling down today, forecasting an 80 percent chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The high temperature is expected to be around 76 degrees with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph.
