One wrestler from both Carson and Douglas High School is still alive for a regional title after the first day of the Class 5A regional wrestling meet.

At 165 pounds, JT Heaton will look to stand atop the podium while Douglas’ Sage Adie will hope to do the same at 215 pounds.

Several other grapplers from both schools still have a chance of making the cut for the state tournament as well.

New this season, the top six wrestlers from each weight class will qualify for state.

Below is a look at the area regional wrestlers that are still alive after the first day of regional wrestling.

The list is sorted by weight and will look at the remaining route to a state tournament qualification


Saturday’s remaining schedule

9 a.m – Consolation semifinals

10:30 a.m. – 5th/6th and 7th/8th placing matches

Noon – 3rd/4th placing matches

12:45 – Break

1:15 – Championship introductions

1:30 – Finals


106 pounds

• Carson’s Jesse Oliva (0-1) will wrestle in consolation semifinals against Spanish Springs’ freshman Brady Porter. A win will advance Oliva to the third place match whereas a loss would put him in the fifth place match.


113 pounds

• Carson’s Beckham Harrison (0-2) will wrestle McQueen’s Jack Frankmore for seventh.

• Douglas’ Gunnar Bleeker (1-1) will wrestle in consolation semifinals against Galena’s Dikota Diamond. A win will put Bleeker in the third place match. A loss will have Bleeker wrestle for fifth.


120 pounds

• Douglas’ Cody Highfill (1-1) and Jacob Lewis (1-1) will wrestle each other in the consolation semifinals. The winner will grapple for third while the loser will head to the fifth place match.


126 pounds

• Carson’s Lucas Wold (1-1) and Douglas’ Victor Valdez (1-1) will wrestle each other in the consolation semifinals. The winner will move into the third place match while the loser will compete for fifth.


132 pounds

• Carson’s Angel Vega (0-2) finished in seventh.


138 pounds

• Carson’s Jett Rupert (2-1) and Douglas’ Kai Blumenthal (2-1) will wrestle in the consolation semifinals against each other.  The winner will head to the third place match while the loser will grapple for fifth.

• Carson’s Maddox Sweet (0-2) will battle Galena’s Dante Biglieri for seventh place.


144 pounds

• Carson’s Toby Krehbiel (1-2) and Douglas’ Kolton Zinn (0-2) will battle each other for seventh place.


150 pounds

• Carson’s Jon Barnes-Hurt (3-1) will take on Spanish Springs’ Kolby Benge (1-1) in the consolation semifinals. The winner will try for third, loser will head to fifth place match.

• Douglas’ Paul Carrion (1-2) will grapple for seventh place against Galena’s Shiloh Wilson.


157 pounds

• Douglas’ Dalton Nixon (2-1) will take on Damonte Ranch’s Dekai Spears (1-1) in the consolation semifinals. A win would move Nixon to the third place round while a loss will put him in the fifth place match.


165 pounds

• Carson’s JT Heaton (2-0) will wrestle for a regional title against Reno’s Breck Worthen (1-0).

• Douglas’ Caine Klein (1-1) will take on Garytt Ostrander (1-1) of Spanish Springs in a consolation semifinal contest. The winner will try for third while the loser will head to the fifth place match.  


175 pounds

• Douglas’ Jaxon Nixon (2-1) will compete in the consolation semifinals against Reed’s Jose Solis (2-1). Winner will try for third; loser will try for fifth.


190 pounds

• Douglas’ Aaron Tekansik (1-1) and Carson’s Christian Rey (1-1) will meet in the consolation semifinals. The winner will head to the third place match while the loser will try for fifth.


215 pounds

• Douglas’ Sage Adie (2-0) will take on Spanish Springs’ Connor Nordt (2-0) for a regional title.

• Carson’s Darron Rey (1-1) will wrestle Reno’s Owen Layfield in the consolation semifinals where a win will give him a chance at third.


285 pounds

•Douglas’ Michael White (0-1) will wrestle Reno’s Jorge Gonzalez in the consolation semifinals with a chance to make it to the third place match.

• Carson’s Dominic Porter (1-1) is also in the other half of the consolation semifinals against Spanish Springs’ Justin Hoefler. Porter bested White in the opening round of the heavyweight bracket.
