Tiger cross country opens season with home meet

Plus, more results from over the weekend

 Kicking off the year with their home meet, Douglas High cross country had some solid finishes to use as early building blocks for the 2022 season.
Senior Jackson Davis continues to be near the top of the pack, finishing in seventh in 14:55 for the Tigers.
Romaine Smokey was 19th for the Tigers in 16:31 to wrap up his senior race as well.
Dennis Jorgensen, who crossed the finish line in 17:31 to take 18th, led the junior boys.
Luke Davis was sixth in the sophomore race in 15:17while Sage Spencer took 24th.
The Douglas girls best finish in terms of placement came from the freshman and sophomore ranks.
Lucy Nord put together a time of 20:46 to finish 12th in the freshman race while Ayla Nelson was 10th in the sophomore grouping.
Senior Megan Strand and junior Julianne Hill were 28th and 26th, respectively.


Douglas volleyball battles through five matches in Vegas
The Tiger volleyball team got its first look at live action this past weekend at a tournament down in Las Vegas.
Douglas won its first and last match of the tournament over Cimarron-Memorial (2-0) and Moapa Valley (2-1).
In between, the Tigers fell to Mountain Ridge, Green Valley and dropped one to Moapa Valley – all of which came in straight sets, 2-0.


Douglas soccer hosts ‘Battle for Nevada’ tournament
Coronado High School won both sides of the first official Battle for Nevada tournament, hosted by Douglas High School over the weekend.
On the girls’ side, Douglas went 2-2 and was selected in fifth in the final tournament rankings.
The Tigers bested Faith Lutheran, 1-0, and Bishop Manogue, 2-1, to bookend the tourney with wins.
Coronado and Bishop Gorman both beat the Tigers by finals of 7-0 and 5-0, respectively.
Douglas had four seniors selected to the all-tournament third team as Kylie Martin, Camden Miller, Kylee Lash and Seara MacPherson all earned the all-tournament honors.
On the boys side, Douglas had two results listed with a 1-0 win over McQueen and a 2-1 loss to Damonte Ranch.
Seniors Wiu Wiu and Alex Diax earned third team all-tournament honors for the Tiger boys.
