Genoa, Nev. — The final week of filing for elected office kicks off this morning. Filing at the Douglas County Clerk’s Office continues through end of business on Friday. So far, we have three countywide races and one district race in the local elections.

I’m told Saturday’s Republican precinct meetings and county convention were well-attended. It’s an off presidential election year, but I get a feeling this is going to be one of those 90-plus turn out years in the general, and the primary’s going to be pretty active, too.

I got word that R-C alum, Minden native and Douglas High School and University of Nevada, Reno, graduate Jazz Aldrich was named general manager of Great Basin Brewery. He’s got a quote in the press release and everything.

Former R-C Editor Guy Clifton was named a Distinguished Nevadan by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents. He’ll be honored at UNR commencement this spring. The other former R-C staffer to hold the Distinguished Nevadan title is Jazz Aldrich’s aunt, Joyce Hollister.

There’s a chance of some precipitation after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, with forecast amounts of around a tenth of an inch in Minden. If that comes to fruition, it will be the most rain to fall in the county seat in 2022.

It’s going to be pretty warm today with a forecast high temperature of 64 degrees and the wind picking up out of the southwest at 5-10 mph this afternoon. Don’t expect anything weatherwise until after midnight.
